How practice you remove that metal seal?
OK, and so we're in the finish room, mask on confront, gloves on hands, exhaust fan running...
We need some lacquer thinner to make clean some equipment, we dump out the final bit from the open up can and take hold of a new gallon of lacquer thinner, struggle with the "kid-proof" plastic torture device on the lid (I began to call them torture devices as my arthritis got worse) and finally remove the lid. Nether the lid in that location that metal plug/seal kind of thing in the opening, and it has to be removed.
Has anyone found a style to get that thing the neck out of there without damaging the opening of the can, so that the hat volition seal? I've punched holes in them and tried to pull them out, I've tried to piece of work a screw driver nether the edge (that can crusade damage to the can), I've tried gripping the edge of the plug with needle signal pliers and pulling information technology out (that can cause damage)...
In that location must be a way, that I'thousand not thinking of, to get that affair out of at that place easily and without damaging the can!

They are a bugger, aren't they? They get a few pick words from me everytime I hitting them with a screwdriver and they go down into the can..... I've institute that an awl with its pointy little tip will punch through and then you tin rock the awl sideways and the "thing" will pop out.

Re: How do you remove that metal seal?
I always pop 'em with a thin flat blade screwdriver almost the edge and rock them out. I have yet to ruin the threaded neck. Pete has a workable thought also simply I would add a puff of Bloxygen after doing it to keep air contamination to a minimum...

Re: How do you remove that metallic seal?
I punch them in the center with an awl, and rock it as far over as information technology can, and that distorts the metallic plenty to pop out.

I utilise a sharpened screwdriver to punch a hole almost the edge and pry and stone it out. It as well helps to brand derogatory remarks nigh the can'south ancestry.

Re: How do you remove that metal seal?
Equally far as the plastic ring on the cap, I e'er pop information technology off with a screwdriver. I don't have time to deal with information technology when I'm in the middle of something. I generally only punch a screwdriver through the seal and so work the screwdriver until the seal pops out.
I'k wondering if you couldn't just use a vintage cork screw to pull it out.
Yous could even use a commercial, heavy duty version.

Re: How do you remove that metal seal?
Is it necessary to remove it? With those things, I ordinarily puch two screwdriver holes (one to let air in) through the thing and take a slower, more than controllable way to cascade the stuff through the holes.

I always use my utility pocketknife to pry open up the seal. I tap the seal back in when done.
